Birthday Month

My birthday falls in November and like any good woman I feel I should get the whole month to celebrate it. It took a little convincing to get my husband to believe this but he has since stepped up to the plate. So far, every day this month he has given me a reason as to why he is glad that I was born.

Today, I got a text that said "Happy Birthday Month to You! Happy Birthday Month to You! We love you!"

Now, that is a smart man or as my sister puts it, a well trained one.

Today, I am thankful for a husband who makes me laugh and smile every day.

Drink Delivery

Today's thanks go to my new delivery service. My niece and her husband live 2 houses down the street from me and have started providing me with my very own drink delivery service. For those of you who might be thinking coffee or tea, you obviously do not know me that well.
They are providing me with frozen mixed drinks. The first time I got pina coladas and tonight I got a whole pitcher of margaritas. Who could ask for more?

So I am thankful for a niece and nephew-in-law that know me so well and share my love of the frozen concoctions!

Is it weird to be thankful for a storm?

A couple things happened during this storm that reminded me why is is so important to be thankful for your family.

First, my sister got into a car accident that while it totaled her car she was able to walk away with minor injuries.

My brother-in-law called to tell me about the accident and there was nothing I could do but wait to hear how she was. I checked on my niece, her daughter, to see how she was holding up, and I told my hubby and kids. In those few hours all I could think of was what if...

Luckily, she was a sore but o.k. but it was a scary few hours. My oldest daughter, clung to me the whole time to make sure I was going to be o.k. too.

Next, while my sister was home recovering, my dad called to say that he was without power and running out of oxygen. I had to call 911 for him. The EMT's were great and got him breathing better again but we knew we had to move him. He ended up staying with my sister so they could both recover together.

That left me in charge of everyone (my mom and other sister were in Florida this whole time). I brought meals, ran to the store, checked on houses, and brought everyone to the Dr. All this while having my kids and their friends for the week. It was a crazy week but we survived.

I came away with it with a better understanding of my dad and all that he had done throughout his life and a stronger bond with my sister as we laughed over things that I'm not sure were even funny.

So today, I am grateful for my family-as crazy as we are we are ALWAYS there for each other.

Why today...

I could tell you that I decided to start in November since most people associate November with Thanksgiving and being thankful for things. Seems simple doesn't it.

That is really is way to simple for me though. Here is how it really came about-
We got a freak snowstorm in October here in Ct. It managed to knock power out for much of the state for over a week. We were very lucky to never lose power but most of my friends and family were not. I ended up taking in my kid's friends for a week long sleepover. I cooked for us, them and for my sister who was taking care of my dad during the storm. It was a long week and there was a lot of complaining going on from those around us but I realized that I was having a great time. The kids were laughing and making me laugh. We were playing games, cooking together, playing in the snow. We didn't leave the house for a week and no one got on each others nerves. I couldn't believe it. Thinking about this brought about my first thankful post:

Today I am thankful for a houseful of kids-some mine, some not-who are bringing a lot of laughter to my week.

The Start

I took a cue from a good friend of mine who started posting one thing she was grateful for as her status on Facebook each day. I thought it was such a cute idea and figured I would do it as well. The problem, I soon realized, was that if I did that I wouldn't be able to go back and read through them when I really needed a pick me up. I also wouldn't be able to fully describe why I was grateful for some things. After thinking about it for awhile I decided I would create this blog. It is a great way for me be keep track of everything and to share my thoughts. I am also hoping that if people start to follow this blog they will share what they are thankful for. We all have so much to be thankful for but sometimes we only focus on the negative things around us. This will give us all the minute we need to realize all the blessings we have in our lives.
